Wen-Hui Helen Chuang
Art Psychotherapist
Introduction
About me
Hi, I am Wen-Hui, you can also call me Helen — a compassionate and creative therapist with a background in art therapy, language education, and residential childcare. I work in a gentle, person-centred way, creating a safe and supportive space for you to begin your healing journey, wherever you are, and however you arrive.
In my practice, art can often express what words can’t. Shifts in imagery, colour, or symbolism can reveal emotional movement and growth, even when it’s difficult to explain how you feel. We might use art-making, conversation, body awareness, or quiet reflection, following what feels right for you in each moment. Sometimes the art leads, sometimes the words do.
Together, we can explore the issues that matter most to you, including your past, your identity, and your hopes for change, and work toward strengthening your sense of self and inner resilience.
I’m currently completing a Certificate in Christian Counselling, and I welcome conversations around faith, spirituality, or religion as part of your journey — always with openness and without any bias from my own beliefs.
There’s no right or wrong way to begin, all of you is welcome here.

My approach
What it's like to work with me
Our first session is a gentle introduction, a chance for us to get to know each other and begin shaping a space that feels safe and supportive for you. There’s no pressure to share everything at once; you’re welcome to speak, create, or simply explore at your own pace. I’ll introduce how art therapy works and reassure you that artistic skill isn’t necessary, the process is about expression, not performance.
Together, we’ll begin forming a shared understanding of what’s brought you here. Sometimes that involves drawing, mapping, or reflecting through images; sometimes it's through conversation. As therapy unfolds, we’ll return to your goals and check in on how you’re feeling, not just through words, but through shifts in artwork, self-awareness, or emotional grounding. We can also use simple tools to track your progress if that feels helpful to you.
Success in this work doesn’t have one definition. For some, it’s feeling more emotionally resilient. For others, it’s reconnecting with parts of themselves they had to leave behind. However it looks for you, we’ll walk that path together.

Beyond therapy
Why I love being a therapist
What I love most about being a therapist is supporting people’s mental health and growth, and being part of their healing journey. It’s a privilege to witness each person’s progress and to help them reconnect with themselves in a deeper, more meaningful way.
My interests & joys
I find joy in pottery, scuba diving, and the creative arts, they help me stay grounded and inspired. I also love travelling and discovering new perspectives, both in the world and within myself.
Background
Professional experience
I’ve supported children, young people, and adults through a range of roles in art therapy, therapeutic childcare, and community support. My clinical experience includes art psychotherapy with Creative Arts Therapies Space (CATS) and an art therapy placement supporting adults with learning disabilities. I currently work in a therapeutic residential setting with young people facing emotional and developmental challenges.
Across all of my work, from schools and studios to clinical environments, I’ve seen how creative expression can open space for healing when words aren’t enough. My approach is always person-centred, inclusive, and responsive to individual needs.
