Art Psychotherapist
Introduction
About me
Hi, and welcome :)
Just by arriving here, you’ve already taken a courageous first step toward caring for your inner world. I know that speaking about emotions and struggles can be difficult—perhaps you’ve felt judged, unheard, or unsupported. Here, you’ll be met with warmth, acceptance, and a space to pause and gently explore what’s going on within you.
I’m Ran, a qualified Art Psychotherapist and Senior Counsellor, working with both English and Mandarin-speaking clients. I have personal and professional experience living across multiple cities and cultures, and a deep understanding of the unique emotional and identity challenges faced by those from BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) backgrounds. I work with cultural sensitivity, empathy, and care.
My approach is calm, attuned, and person-centred. I pay close attention to subtle cues—what’s said and what’s left unsaid—and use insight and intuition to gently guide the process. I often incorporate creative and arts-based methods to help you express and process emotions that may be hard to articulate. This might involve art-making, metaphors, symbols, or simply noticing bodily sensations and internal imagery.
My methods are flexible and collaborative—we move at your pace, in ways that feel safe, meaningful, and empowering for you. You don’t have to come in with the “right words.” We can talk—or not talk. You can create, reflect, feel, or simply be.
I offer support with:
• Anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm
• Cultural identity, belonging, and cross-cultural experiences
• Immigration, relocation, and adjustment
• Family dynamics and intergenerational patterns
• Trauma and post-traumatic growth
• Shame, self-criticism, and self-acceptance
Whether you’re feeling stuck, lost, or just longing for a space that feels yours, I’m here to walk alongside you. You deserve to be seen, heard, and supported—just as you are.

My approach
What it's like to work with me
In our first session, I’ll explain the structure and boundaries of therapy, while emphasising that we’ll go at your own pace. There’s flexibility in how the process unfolds—we shape it together. Therapy is not a test or a fixed path, but a space we co-create based on what feels safe, helpful, and meaningful for you.
I revisit your therapeutic goals with you regularly to reflect on any shifts or progress. I also listen closely to your own feedback, and sometimes input from family if relevant. Beyond symptom relief, I pay attention to growing emotional maturity, self-awareness, and your sense of agency in navigating life.
Sometimes I invite clients to draw an image that represents the theme they feel stuck in, as a way to deepen reflection. For longer-term exploration, I may suggest tools like visual journaling to track mood patterns, capture small moments of safety or joy, and strengthen emotional regulation. These practices are always optional and adapted to what suits you best.
