Career Opportunities

Lisbon • Remote

Who we are

We’re building a mental health & wellbeing platform for internationals, expats, and students navigating transitions — moving countries, starting new chapters, or feeling lost in between.

We’re early-stage, mission-driven, and growing slowly and intentionally.

If you care about mental health, people, and building something meaningful from the ground up, we’d love to hear from you.

You don’t need to “tick every box.”Curiosity, care, and willingness to learn matter more.

Opportunities

1. Growth&Community Intern

Location: Lisbon (Remote)
Type: Summer Internship

About the role

You’ll help us build Pillow’s presence in Lisbon, not just online, but in real life. This means connecting with communities, spaces, and people who are already bringing others together, and helping Pillow become a natural part of that ecosystem.

This role sits at the intersection of community, partnerships, and human connection. You’ll see how a city grows from zero through relationships, not just strategy.

What you’ll do

  • Identify and connect with local communities (expats, internationals, students, founders, wellness spaces)
Reach out and build genuine relationships with community organisers and partners
Map ongoing events, gatherings, and spaces aligned with Pillow
Support building Pillow’s local presence (e.g. WhatsApp groups, community touchpoints)
Help bring Pillow into existing communities and conversations

What You’ll Gain

  • Real experience in building a city from the ground up

  • Understanding how partnerships actually happen (not just theory)

  • Confidence reaching out and speaking with founders, organisers, and operators

  • Exposure to founder-level thinking and decision-making

  • A deeper understanding of how community-led growth works

We’re looking for someone who

  • Naturally connects with people and enjoys being in communities

  • Is curious, proactive, and comfortable reaching out to others

  • Is interested in startups, human behaviour, or community-building

  • Understands (or is part of) the expat / international lifestyle

  • Cares about mental health, wellbeing, and meaningful connections

2. Marketing Intern

Location: Lisbon (Remote)
Type: Summer Internship

About the role

You’ll help shape how Pillow shows up online, in a way that feels human, thoughtful, and real.

This is not about chasing trends or posting for the sake of it. It’s about creating content that makes people feel seen, understood, and less alone.

You’ll work closely with us on storytelling, positioning, and content direction, translating emotional insight into simple, powerful ideas.

What you’ll do

  • Support content creation for Instagram and other channels

  • Help develop ideas for highly relatable, saveable content

  • Explore storytelling around mental health, transitions, and identity

  • Engage with our audience and community online

  • Contribute to content strategy and creative direction

What You’ll Gain

  • Experience shaping a brand voice from an early stage

  • Ownership over ideas, not just execution

  • Practice turning psychology into storytelling

  • Insight into what actually resonates (not just what trends)

  • A portfolio of meaningful, thoughtful work

We’re looking for someone who

  • Enjoys writing, storytelling, or visual content

  • Has a strong sense of empathy and emotional awareness

  • Understands Gen Z / expat / international audiences

  • Cares about mental health and human connection

  • Thinks in ideas, not just formats

3. Junior Software Engineer (Early-Stage)

Location: Lisbon (Remote)
Type: Internship or Junior role

About the role

You’ll help build Pillow from the ground up.

This is not a typical internship where you’re given isolated tasks — you’ll work closely with the founder on real product decisions, shaping how the platform works and evolves.

We’re looking for someone who doesn’t just want to “learn to code,” but wants to build something meaningful that people actually use.

What you’ll do

  • Contribute to the development of Pillow’s web platform

  • Build and improve core product features (profiles, booking flows, matching logic, etc.)

  • Work on real user problems and iterate based on feedback

  • Collaborate on product thinking, not just implementation

  • Move fast, test ideas, and learn by building

What you'll gain

  • Hands-on experience building a real product used by real users

  • Exposure to how early-stage products evolve from idea → MVP → iteration

  • Direct collaboration with the founder on product and technical direction

  • Ownership over features, not just small tasks

  • A strong portfolio of meaningful, real-world work

We’re looking for someone who

  • Has built something themselves (side project, app, tool, etc.)

  • Has basic experience with web development (frontend, backend, or both)

  • Ideally has interest or exposure to SaaS or marketplace products

  • Is curious, proactive, and comfortable figuring things out independently

  • Cares about building products that genuinely help people

4.Student Ambassador

Location: University-based (international students especially welcome)
Type: Part-time / flexible

About the role

You’ll help bring Pillow into your campus — not by “promoting it,” but by making it part of real student life.

This is a light but meaningful role focused on conversations, presence, and understanding what students actually need when they’re away from home.

You’ll act as a bridge between your student community and Pillow.

What you’ll do

  • Share Pillow within your student network in a natural, authentic way

  • Help us understand what students are actually experiencing and struggling with

  • Be present in relevant groups, conversations, and spaces

  • Support or initiate small campus touchpoints (events, meetups, collaborations)

  • Act as a connector between students and the Pillow team

What you'll gain

  • Experience representing a mission-driven startup

  • Practice in communication, initiative, and community building

  • Direct exposure to founder thinking and early-stage decisions

  • The opportunity to shape how Pillow shows up for students

  • A stronger sense of your voice, presence, and influence

We're looking for someone who

  • Is a student

  • Is naturally social and well-connected within their community

  • Cares about mental health, wellbeing, and meaningful connections

  • Enjoys bringing people together

  • Is proactive and comfortable taking initiative

Location: Portugal
Type: Flexible

Tell us:

  • We’ll reach out when there’s a good fit.

We design each internship around your strengths, interests, and long-term direction, with clear ownership and expectations.

How the Application Works

Step 1: Apply
Fill in the application form and select the role you’re interested in.
Tell us about your strengths, interests, and what draws you to Pillow.

Step 2: Short Assessment (if shortlisted)
If there’s a strong alignment, we’ll share a short, role-relevant assessment.
This helps us understand how you think and approach problems — not just what’s on your CV.

Step 3: Interview
You’ll have a conversation with our founder or a team member (depending on the role). This is a two-way discussion to explore fit, expectations, and growth.
